Idea for insect spray.
Swirl a handful of green onion tops in 1/2 gallon of warm water and leave  them in the water.  Let the water sit covered overnight.  Then add a few drops of biodegradable detergent  and shake well.  Pour the brew into a spray bottle.

YOU CAN DO IT

Try growing your own organic vegetables and fruit this year.  It may not require as much space as you think.  Some things can be planted in large pots or corners of a flower bed.    They will need at least 6 hours of direct sun.  Regular harvest encourages more growth.
Varieties that do good in containers are:
Sweet Pepper - California Wonder or Cubanelle
Zucchini - Buckingham
Cucumber - Marketmore
Snap beans - Blue Lake
Tomatoes - Tumbling Tom
Radishes - are easy and fun for the kids to have quick success.
I always grow basil and oreango for my Italian dishes.
Strawberries can be grown in containers but I have had problems with bugs on strawberries.

Use a really big pot and try a blueberry bush that is already bearing.  The rabbiteye blueberry has little problems with pests.  Two good varieties of rabbiteye are Delite and Tifblue.  Check daily for water during hot weather.  Partial to full sun.
